Losing weight and getting in shape requires a healthy diet and regular exercise. When it comes to exercise, the first thing you must understand is that just because you burn calories does not mean you burn fat. 

When you exercise, your main focus should be losing body fat, and you cannot lose body fat just by burning calories. 

Exercise causes our bodies to burn calories, but those calories come from carbohydrates in our systems. The presence of oxygen is necessary in order for your body to burn calories from stored fat. 

Your body needs a certain amount of oxygen to start burning fat, and you can only measure how much oxygen it needs by keeping up with your target heart rate during exercise. 

It is important to understand that if you continue to consume only carbohydrates, you will largely lose "water weight," leading to a decrease in your metabolic rate. 

Energy calories are also calories that are burned from carbohydrates. When you lose too many calories, your muscles won't get enough energy to increase your metabolism, which indirectly burns fat. 

Exercise burns energy calories, so you must replace them by increasing your calorie intake.

Before you begin burning fat during aerobic exercise, your body undergoes several stages. During the first 10 minutes of exercise, people will tell you that you are only burning sugar (carbohydrates), not fat. Generally speaking, this is the case. 

Unless you work out hard enough for your body to want more oxygen, or if you work out too hard, you won't be able to supply your body with enough oxygen to burn fat after 10 minutes. 

It is crucial that you exercise at a steady pace (not too fast, not too slow) so that your body can utilize your stored fat (not carbohydrates or sugar) for energy. Remember that just because you have reached the fat burning stage does not mean you will remain there. 

It depends again on whether you are moving at a pace that is right for your body if you want to stay at the fat burning stage. Make sure that you are within your target heart rate range.
